Born in 1998, Wanshu started playing the violin at the age of seven. When she first played chamber music at the age of fifteen, she was immediately captivated by the intimacy and warmth of the sound of the viola, and has focussed on the instrument ever since.
After graduating with a 1st class honours Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal Northern College of Music in 2021, Wanshu is extremely grateful to have received a full scholarship from the Royal Academy of Music to continue her master's studies in viola performance. Her teachers include Jon Thorne, Susie Meszaros and Veit Hertenstein. Wanshu's studies are supported by the British Council.
Alongside her classical training, Wanshu enjoys innovative music and creative performances. Highlights include performing at the Manchester International Festival and the Melbourne Arts Festival with Maxine Peake, the London Jazz Festival with Alice Zawadzki and with the Nash Ensemble at the Wigmore Hall. She has also worked in a cross-project collaboration with dancers, producers and artists from Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Italy and Lithuania. She is currently working closely with several composers on solo works and ensemble commissions which will be performed in 2022/2023.
