  4. Highgrove Suite - Patrick Hawes

This programme celebrates the anniversary of the births, in Gloucestershire, of Ralph Vaughan Williams (150 years) and Herbert Howells (130 years). The music of both these composers is indelibly linked with the countryside, especially that of the county in which they were born. The Mahler Adagietto is often performed as a standalone work and became especially well-known following its inclusion in the 1971 film version of Death in Venice. It was programmed for this evening at the suggestion of Quintin Ballardie, in whose memory this concert takes place. Patrick Hawes' Highgrove Suite was inspired by the gardens at Highgrove House, the Gloucestershire home of HRH The Prince of Wales, our Patron. Each movement evokes a different place and scene in the gardens.

Before the concert at 6pm will be a pre-concert talk with Paul Wing (General Manager of the English Chamber Orchestra) and Patrick Hawes.
