  1. Acis and Galatea HWV 49b - George Frideric Handel

The Ryedale Festival offers great music in beautiful places, with 17 days of inspiring performances in beautiful and historic locations across North Yorkshire.

Welcome to Arcadia. Heaven on earth. Beauty and nature live together in perfect harmony – and the nymph Galatea has love in her eyes. But when the jealous giant murders her beloved Acis, the idyll is shattered. Only with the help of Handel’s most beautiful and bucolic music can harmony finally be restored. A group of outstanding young singers and players present a concert staging of this magical opera, specially created for three of Ryedale’s most beautiful medieval churches.

‘with its unerring knack of flushing out operas that are ideally suited to their surroundings Ryedale Festival Opera has hit the target yet again…vivacious, emotional and clear toned…a poignant and rewarding show’ Opera Magazine
