In 1973, London Concord Singers and Malcolm Cottle premiered Five Childhood Lyrics by John Rutter at the Southbank Centre's Purcell Room. The work was written for the choir and we are delighted to be bringing it back this year at our Summer concert in advance of its 50th anniversary next year.

Conducted by Jessica Norton, we are giving a programme entitled Childhood Lyrics and Songs of Summer with Rutter's work alongside Vaughan Williams' Five English Folksongs and music by three other 20th-century English composers John Gardner, Michael Tippett and Alan Bullard whose Summer Garland was originally written for the Queen's Silver Jubilee and is most appropriate for this, her Platinum Jubilee year
