There’s a world of repertoire that doesn’t often feature in big symphony orchestra programmes but which is fresh, vibrant and light on its feet, and which we’re going to discover with our friends at Sinfonia Viva. We’re starting with this spirited hour of great Baroque pieces from Germany.

Informally presented by Viva’s players, it’ll introduce you to the delights of the baroque oboe from Johann Sebastian Bach and Johann David Heinichen, performed by Viva’s Principal Oboe, Maddy Aldis-Evans, and the darting musical dialogues of Concerto Grosso, represented by one of the giants of the form, George Frideric Handel. There’s also some wonderfully imaginative storytelling from Bach’s brilliant and prolific contemporary, Georg Philipp Telemann, whose Don Quixote Suite lightheartedly captures the chaotic adventures of Cervantes’s deluded hero.
