  3. South of the Line Op 109 - John Joubert
  4. The Peace of the Night (world premiere) - Alec Roth

Some of the greatest music is written in protest, offering courage and hope. From the opening words - “What did you say?” - this concert will pin you to your chair with its profoundly moving appeals for freedom and compassion.

MacMillan protests about political repression, Joubert the inhumanity of war, and Beamish explores the complex relationship between hostage and torturer - fear, contempt, and finally something softer and more unifying.

This concert contains two world premieres, and South of the Line was premiered by Ex Cathedra in 1985. It will end at approximately 5.45pm.
