  1. Lady in the Dark - Symphonic Nocturne - Kurt Weill, arranged by Robert Russell Bennett
  2. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 4 in G Op 58 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  3. Symphonic Dances Op 45 - Sergey Rachmaninov

Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, Kurt Weill on Broadway and the award winning Eric Lu playing Beethoven, in a concert that spans the many worlds of guest conductor Marin Alsop.

When Kurt Weill escaped the Nazis and made a new career in the US, he did it in style: Lady in the Dark is a sumptuous, silken slice of Broadway glamour. Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, meanwhile, have a big band swing – but their heart is in a Russia that Rachmaninoff had lost forever. With Eric Lu playing Beethoven’s Fourth Concerto, this is a concert that spans new worlds and old.

And if few conductors can span the Atlantic in their music-making with more assurance than Marin Alsop, few young pianists have caused as much of a buzz as Eric Lu when he won the 2018 Leeds Piano Competition. Hear for yourself, as he plays one of Beethoven’s most personal, and lyrical works: the very piece with which he scooped the prize.
