  1. Fantasia No 6 in F - Henry Purcell
  2. Tenebrae for string quartet - Osvaldo Golijov
  3. String Quartet No 2 in C Op 36 - Benjamin Britten
  4. String Quartet No 9 in C, 'Rasumovsky' Op 59 No 3 - Ludwig van Beethoven

From the ancient world of Henry Purcell through to the transcendentalist nature of Osvaldo Golijov’s work, this programme presents a spectrum of colours and musical soundscapes. Purcell's ingenious fantasias for viol consort are a common thread here, the source of inspiration for countless English composers, not least for Benjamin Britten. Both Golijov and Britten feature the musical form of a chaconne, which appear in various guises, morphed and shaped beyond recognition. The programme culminates in the last of Beethoven’s ‘Razumovsky’ quartets; full blooded and hurtling away from the conventional, yet at all times keeping us well and truly grounded.

“A wonderfully dedicated group of musicians who bring assuredness and freshness to everything they play" (Alina Ibragimova)
