  1. Fantasiestücke, for cello and piano Op 73 - Robert Schumann
  2. Sonata for cello and piano No 1 in F Op 5 No 1 - Ludwig van Beethoven

Praised for the “elegance of his technique, overall sound and natural poeticism” (Strad Magazine), Maxim Calver made his concerto debut with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in Symphony Hall, Birmingham as part of the Grand Final of the BBC Young Musician Competition 2018. In this recital he performs Schumann’s Fantasiestucke, which moves from inward reflection to extroverted exuberance, and Beethoven’s wonderfully fresh and inventive first cello sonata.

Prior to the concert, from 10.30am, enjoy a cup of coffee and slice of cake with fellow audience members (included in the ticket price).
