Composed as a showcase for his wife Constanze, a talented soprano, Mozart’s dazzling Great Mass in C minor is an undisputed masterpiece of church music, a remarkable union of musical vision and religious text drawing on Mozart’s skill for drama that made his operatic works such a phenomenal success. Ealing Choral Society and the English Chamber orchestra are delighted to present a spring programme that also includes Mozart’s exhilarating motet Exsultate, jubilate, and more contemplative works by Haydn and Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. A highlight of the evening is Ave verum corpus, one of William Byrd’s most moving compositions, marking the 400th anniversary of the composer’s death.
