Thanet Festival Choir presents Chilcott St John Passion

Bob Chilcott is well known as a one-time member of the King's Singers and as a prolific composer of choral music. His mighty setting of words from St John’s Gospel is an hour-long work, premiered in 2013. It is a dramatic, yet optimistic, re-telling of the Passiontide story and - as with Bach’s great Passions - the role of the Evangelist is taken by the tenor soloist, who provides a linking narrative through the work. The narration is interspersed with interjections from the chorus (as the crowd, or soldiers) and from Pilate and Jesus, with the dramatic sections being linked by hymns and meditations sung by the choir.

The performance features soprano, tenor and two baritone soloists, and a nine-piece orchestral ensemble (viola, cello, tuba, french horn, two trumpets, trombone, timpani and organ). An exciting evening of great music and high drama is guaranteed.
