  1. Prelude, from Khovanshchina - Modest Mussorgsky, completed and orchestrated by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov
  2. Concerto for Violin and Orchestra No 1 in A minor Op 77 - Dmitry Shostakovich
  3. Symphony No 6 in B minor, 'Pathétique' Op 74 - Pyotr Tchaikovsky

During the last decade, the Dresden Philharmonic has performed a number of memorable concerts at Cadogan Hall. We’re very pleased to have back in our series this leading German orchestra under its conductor Stanislav Kochanovsky.

The concert will start with Mussorgsky’s evocative Prelude to his opera Khovanshchina and will be followed by Maria Ioudenitch’s interpretation of one of the most profound violin concertos composed in the 20th century, Shostakovich’s First Violin Concerto, with its ravishing central passacaglia.

The second half will feature one of the most poignant and tragic of all symphonies, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No 6, the ‘Pathétique’.

‘The result is one of the best interpretations we have ever heard’ L’ape musical
