The Working Consort presents David Lang's the little match girl passion - a 50-minute performance of the Pulitzer Prize-winning piece, along with a few other choral works.

the little match girl passion is a work for voices and instruments, which blends secular and sacred. Lang combines Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of The Little Match Girl with abstracted text from Bach’s St Matthew Passion. In doing so, he asks us to consider Andersen’s story in a deeply spiritual context, but also questions the need for such distinctions when we are moved by powerful stories.

The Working Consort is a new group of accomplished singers who live and work in London but, at least for now, work as professionals in other disciplines. The small group focuses on close consort singing, ambitious repertoire, and creative performances.
