For its next performance, the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra invites you to join it for a concert of music from America to include favourites by Bernstein, Copland, Gershwin, Ellington, Rodgers & Hammerstein and many more! Highlights will include a selection from West Side Story, Bernstein’s hugely successful Broadway musical, later adapted into two critically acclaimed films. A medley from Porgy and Bess will also feature, including some of Gershwin’s most famous music such as Summertime and It Ain’t Necessarily So.
Any musical tour of America would not be complete without the music of Aaron Copland, and this concert will not disappoint with favourites such as his Fanfare for the Common Man and Hoe-Down from his ballet Rodeo. Inspired by a Kentucky fiddler known as Bill Stepp, Copland’s immensely popular Hoe-Down celebrates the American square dance in style.
Classic after classic…this concert is not to be missed and is sure to sweep you along and “down the plain” with a selection from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! before the final Liberty Bell by Sousa.
The Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, having performed a wide and varied repertoire of works over the years. In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral. Music from America will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
