For their next performance the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra will present a unique concert programme, chosen entirely by their audience. The group invited their supporters to choose and then sponsor favourite classical excerpts for performance at their summer concert, with all proceeds going towards orchestra funds.
The Orchestra were overwhelmed by the response from their audience members, and now have a full programme for the concert including many favourite symphonic and concerto movements. The selection includes Khachaturian’s Adagio from Spartacus, also known as the immensely popular theme from The Onedin Line. Movements from Bellini’s Trumpet Concerto, Beethoven’s Symphony No 7 and Donizetti’s Concertino for cor anglais and orchestra are also included.
Where soloists are required, they are drawn from the Orchestra itself. The concert therefore not only lets people hear their favourite classical excerpts played live but will also reveal some of the many talented musicians who regularly play in the Orchestra, allowing them to be heard giving these solos.
The Adagio from Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty, Handel’s Arrival of the Queen of Sheba and Borodin’s In the Steppes of Central Asia will also feature in this nicely varied programme. Lastly, the concert will conclude with Stravinsky’s incredible Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird Suite.
The concert is part of the 32nd season for the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra which is now well established in the local area with over 60 registered members, and has performed an incredibly wide and varied repertoire of works over the years. In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral. In July 2011 the group celebrated 25 years of music making at the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.
Well-loved moments in orchestral sound will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J Williams. For further details see the Orchestra's website.
