  1. Concerto Grosso No 2 in F Op 6 - Arcangelo Corelli
  2. Fantasia Concertante on a theme of Corelli - Sir Michael Tippett
  3. Spem in alium (40-part motet) - Thomas Tallis
  4. 3 Idylls for string quartet - Frank Bridge
  5. Variations on a theme of Frank Bridge Op 10 - Benjamin Britten
  6. When rising from the bed of death - Thomas Tallis
  7. Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis - Ralph Vaughan Williams

Probably for the first time ever, this remarkable concert joins three of the 20th century’s finest pieces for string orchestra to the works by which they were inspired and on which they were based. Audiences will be able to appreciate first hand the influence and effect of Arcangelo Corelli on Tippett, Frank Bridge on Britten, and Thomas Tallis on Vaughan-Williams, with Orchestra of the Swan and Verba et Musica performing each pairing without interruption or applause. To complement these fantasias and variations, the Festival’s Artistic Director, Matthew Boyden, has written an arrangement of Spem in alium for string orchestra, to be performed alongside Tallis’s original 40-part motet.
