  1. Ricercar a 6, from Musikalisches Opfer, 'Musical Offering' BWV 1079 - Johann Sebastian Bach
  2. Mass in B minor BWV 232 - Johann Sebastian Bach

JS Bach's B minor Mass is the Everest of choral music, and on 30 March 2019 Tredici Chamber Choir will climb it in company with the highly acclaimed Orpheus Sinfonia and five distinguished soloists. An encyclopaedic compendium of vocal styles from Gregorian chant to Italian opera and comprising the finest music of which the Saxon master was capable, it was neither published nor performed complete for a century after his death. In its time the monumental grandeur of Bach's conception was unprecedented, and even today its beauty and spiritual power are widely regarded as unsurpassable. The view from the top will be breath-taking.

The Mass is preceded by a short work which played a key role in its genesis, the 6-part Ricercare (from The Musical Offering) by which Bach triumphed over a malicious - and seemingly impossible - challenge from Frederick the Great: it's the most astonishing fugue ever written.
