The professional Tamino Orchestra returns to the beautiful surroundings of St Stephen’s church to present Metamorphosen, Richard Strauss’s haunting string elegy written at the end of the Second World War, one of the great musical testaments of the 20th century. Stephanie Marshall, who has created roles at the Royal Opera House and English National Opera, portrays the lover Alceste in a moving aria from Gluck's opera. Also on the programme are a delightful, tuneful Concerto Grosso by Handel, showcasing the virtuoso talents of violinists Sophia Durrant and Claire Sterling; a sublime meditation by John Tavener; and the première of Procession by Nicholas Ansdell-Evans, who conducts.

Wine will be served in the interval
