The concert presents four young pupils of John Gough, a Chester-born piano recitalist and teacher.

Justine Gormley

Justine is currently studying with John Gough. She was a finalist in the 2019Young Pianistof the North International Piano Competition, and has been successful in the Feis Ceoil Music Festival in Dublin. Justine has performed in various solo and chamber settings across England and Ireland, has appeared as a soloist with orchestra at the Lisbon InternationalYouth Music Festival, Portugal, and has been interviewed and broadcast on BBC RadioUlster.

Rufus Edwards

Rufus Edwards is currently working towards an ABRSM diploma. He started learning to play the piano at the age of five and enjoys all aspects of music today, also playing the clarinet and singing in the Wrexham County Youth Choir. Last year he won the Blue Riband prize at the National Eisteddfod, and he regularly competes and performs elsewhere.

Felix Gideonse

Felix Gideonse has been studying at JRNCM. He has been taking a year out of education and has spent the year working towards taking an LRSM. In October Felix will start studying for a degree in Mathematics at Imperial College London and he is enthusiastic to remain heavily involved with music whilst he is there.

As well as playing the piano, Felix is an experienced singer and organist. He is now the organ scholar at St John the Baptist church, Chester.

Matthew Lau

Originally from Manchester, Matthew auditioned and secured a place at the Junior Royal Northern College of Music, learning the piano with John Gough and second study cello with Clare Rowe. He is now a second year pianist at the RNCM, studying on the BMus Intensive pathway, continuing under the tutorship of JohnGough
