Each year, the Oxford Lieder Young Artist Platform seeks two outstanding duos – young professionals beginning to forge great careers – to be our ‘ambassadors for song’. They give recitals up and down the country in music clubs and festivals, supported by Oxford Lieder and flying the flag for song, as well as for our international partner festivals. Their showcase recitals at the Festival are always a highlight.

This exciting young duo gave an exceptional audition recital earlier this year and we were delighted to appoint them as Oxford Lieder Young Artists. Their performance of Ravel’s Histoires Naturelles was a particular highlight then, and forms the centrepiece of this recital too. Continuing a broad nature theme that also links to today’s Song Connections event, they then perform a wonderful cycle of songs exploring the changing seasons by the composer Derek Holman. Holman was born in Cornwall but lived and worked in Canada from 1965 until his death in June last year. Well-known as a choral conductor, he was a prolific and popular composer. Joël and Cole intersperse his cycle with Brahms songs chosen to reflect on each season in turn.

This concert will be streamed completely live from the Holywell Music Room. Shortly afterwards, it will also be available to watch again (using the same ticket and link) until 1 November 2020. Click here for further information on how tickets will work this year.
