Every December since 2003, Brighton Festival Chorus has filled Brighton Dome with a popular mixture of carols, festive jokes, and glorious seasonal music accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and joined by the acclaimed Brighton Festival Youth Choir and guest soloists.
This year, despite having no ‘live’ audience, we are keeping the festive tradition alive and we want to get all of Sussex singing!
Sussex Sings Christmas will be a joyful and stirring family occasion to get Christmas underway. We are creating two community ‘virtual’ choirs to sing with us. We’re asking individuals and groups from our community to upload themselves singing much-loved Christmas favourites; we’ll then magically put all of the performances together to be streamed on the Wednesday afternoon before Christmas, accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
James Morgan said ‘Alongside the usual sparklingly festive favourites performed by Juliette Pochin, our chorus, youth choir and the RPO, this year is a unique opportunity to celebrate Christmas by joining together in song online. We want as many people as possible to upload their versions of the carols we’ve chosen, so we can make the concert one that will live long in the memory!’
Should you wish to join in, full instructions are available for how to record and upload your performance here
Or you can simply buy a ticket and join us online on 23 December at 6pm by purchasing a ticket through the dedicated section of our website
Proceeds will help us raise our target of £10,000 to stage the event. These funds will help support the choruses, the Dome and our professional colleagues. With 70% of artists on freelance contracts never has it been more important to be able to engage them to run a venue, play, sing, compose.
We look forward to singing together at Christmas!
