  1. Piano Trio in E flat Op 70 No 2 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  2. Piano Trio No 2 in C Op 87 - Johannes Brahms

When not performing as a soloist, violinist Nicola Benedetti appears frequently as a chamber musician – most often with the trio she co-founded with pianist Alexei Grynyuk and cellist Leonard Elschenbroich. Here the three musicians pair Beethoven's witty and subtle Piano Trio Op 70 No 2 with Brahms’s powerful and heroic Piano Trio No 2, Op 87.

This concert is part of Piccadilly Piano Plus - a chamber music series at St James's Church Piccadilly, in which both established and emerging artists celebrate the many facets of the piano as a means of musical expression and education.

"The trio ratcheted up the intensity so that everything could be wrapped up by the finale, the climax of which was evidence – if evidence was needed – of the brilliant musicianship of Benedetti, Elschenbroich, not forgetting Alexei Grynyuk’s plangent piano."
