  1. String Quartet No 8 in E minor, 'Rasumovsky' Op 59 No 2 - Ludwig van Beethoven

We return to Beethoven's genius, romantic and exuberant string quartets for this concert. The second of the three commissioned by the Russian nobleman and ambassador in Vienna, Count Razumovsky, has the strongest Russian flavour of the set, featuring Russian themes woven into its extremes of emotion and intensity.

Richard Wigmore will give an introduction to the piece.

Performances at 4.30pm and 7.30pm The programme will last about 60 minutes, without an interval.
