Following a sensational performance of Winterreise at our Winter into Spring weekend earlier this year, Dietrich Henschel returns with more Schubert, delving into songs about the sea and ocean. The programme concludes with Schubert’s setting of Schiller’s epic ballad ‘Der Taucher’: an opera in song with the drama of an action movie that, as Graham Johnson writes, ‘has everything: a villainous tyrant, a pretty and compassionate princess, whirlpools and sea-monsters, and a young hero whose Superman powers desert him for the finale’.
