This recital by Ian Tracey celebrates the 50th anniversary of the remarkable mechanical organ built by Rushworth and Dreaper in 1972 at the instigation of the organist of Mold Parish Church, Geoff Knowles.
Professor Ian Tracey has had a life-long association with Liverpool Cathedral and its music. He studied organ with Lewis Rust, then with his immediate precursor, Noel Rawsthorne.
In 1980 he became the youngest cathedral organist in the country. In 2007, after 27 years service, the Dean and Chapter created the post of Organist Titulaire, allowing him to devote more time to playing, lecturing, recording and writing. He was subsequently appointed to the position of Organist and Master of the Choristers. He has played at most of the major venues in this country, and many elsewhere in Europe. Very much in demand in the USA., he has made 23 extensive tours, playing in all the major cities. His tours have also included concerts in Paris (Notre Dame), the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Bermuda and Australia.
He has been a frequent broadcaster with the BBC and a regular soloist at the Proms. His recordings on the Liverpool Cathedral organ have been critically acclaimed. He holds Fellowships from sixteen prestigious musical institutions both here and abroad, including the Royal College of Organists. He is no stranger to Mold Parish Church, having officiated as Noel Rawsthorne's assistant at an inaugural recital. Other recitals nearby include Theatr Clwyd and St Mary's Northop Hall. His other posts include Organist to the City of Liverpool and St George's Hall.
