“Corvus Consort and Ferio Saxophone Quartet transport[ed] us to a magical place”
— Henley Standard, 2022
The Corvus Consort and Ferio Saxophone Quartet perform music from their new CD Revoiced, as well as their own arrangement of Vaughan Williams's In Windsor Forest. Described as “a bold and fascinating recording” by Tortoise Media, Revoiced is the Corvus Consort’s debut disc, and was released in July this year on Chandos Records.
The repertoire features a selection of Baroque and Renaissance works re-imagined for voices and saxophones, described as “intriguing and strikingly effective arrangements” by Andrew McGregor on BBC Radio 3's Record Review, as well as contemporary works composed and arranged for the same forces. Of these, this concert will feature Freddie Crowley’s arrangement of Sir James MacMillan’s Christus Vincit and Owain Park’s re-imagining of Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere, which places voices and saxophones in dialogue and translates the original music into a rich contemporary soundworld.
In celebration of Ralph Vaughan Williams’s 150th year in 2022, the concert will conclude with Freddie Crowley’s arrangement of RVW’s cantata In Windsor Forest, commissioned specially for Corvus and Ferio earlier this year by the Chiltern Arts Festival with the support of the Vaughan Williams Charitable Trust.
Miserere after Allegri was composed by Owain Park specially for Corvus & Ferio and their disc Revoiced. All other items are arranged by Freddie Crowley for Corvus & Ferio.
This concert will run without an interval and last just over an hour.
