Mixing sunshine and pathos, religious and secular themes, our summer programme spans the centuries from Henry Purcell’s powerfully emotional Hear my Prayer (1682) and JS Bach’s joyous Lobet den Herrn, to the 21st century with an exciting contemporary composition by Libby Croad, To the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Samuel Barber’s Agnus Dei of 1938, adds Latin liturgical text to his own Adagio for Strings.

James MacMillan’s Cantos sagrados combines sacred and secular themes using poems by Ariel Dorfman dealing with motherhood and loss in South America.

We conclude with Vaughan Williams’s Mass in G minor, a classical theme presented in the English style.
