Enjoy an exceptional classical violin recital by renowned virtuoso, Anthony Poon, accompanied by the outstanding pianist Galin Ganchev Set in the beautiful candlelit setting of St Mary Le Strand, a hugely appealing programme that will start your weekend in style! Anthony Poon graduated in 2021 from the Royal Academy of Music where he studied for his Bachelor of Music and Master of Arts degrees, majoring in violin with Jack Liebeck on an entrance scholarship. Prior to this, he studied with Alex Laing at Uppingham School.
As a soloist, Anthony performed the first movement of Lalo’s 'Symphonie Espagnole' with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra for a charity concert in March 2017. In June 2019 he was invited as a soloist to perform Brahms Violin Concerto with the Stamford Chamber Orchestra. At the beginning of the year he was awarded 2nd prize in the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition.
Anthony has been awarded Honorable Mention in the Musicus Society’s 2021 Young Artist Audition and Winner of the Tunnell Trust’s Music Club Award Scheme. He will be performing a series of concerts in Hong Kong with the Musicus Society and Scotland respectively.

Galin Ganchev was accepted in Shrewsbury School, UK, as a full music scholar in 2010. Currently, he holds the Grover Bennett scholarship in the Royal Academy of Music, where he studies with prof. Ian Fountain. Galin has won many major prizes– including "Young musician of the year" from BBC Shropshire (2012) and 'Piano Recital Award' from Oxford Music Festival (2018), among others. He has performed as a soloist in more than 100 concerts in the UK, Bulgaria, Germany, Belgium, and Italy, and has collaborated with conductors such as Martin Georgiev, Francesco Lanzillotta, Robert Wysome, John Moore and others. His repertoire includes more than 140 solo works, as well as many chamber and concerto pieces. He has also taken part in master classes with renowned musicians such as Yevgeny Sudbin, Jack Liebeck, Adrian Brendel, Imogen Cooper, and others.
