  1. St John Passion BWV 245 - Johann Sebastian Bach

Fresh on the heels of the release of a new CD exploring the music of Guerrero, Massaino and McDowall the luminatus vocal ensemble will be performing the JS Bach's iconic St John Passion, with the 18th Century Sinfonia on period instruments.

The performance will reflect, in many ways, the type of ensemble which Bach would have experienced in Leipzig. This includes a small number of singers, who take on the solo and chorus parts, as well as the use of Baroque pitch. This context is designed to highlight the dramatic contrasts between the story outlined by an evangelist, the contributions of the crowd interjections (chorus) and the emotional reflections of the arias.

Bach wrote and then re-wrote the St John Passion several times, before returning to his original ideas. This performance celebrates the 300th anniversary of this music.
