Eclectic Voices, regarded as one of the most ambitious and daring choirs on the London scene, present another exciting and unpredictable programme this autumn.

As part of the 2023 London Jazz Festival the choir will bring together two contemporary jazz composers, Finnish Guitarist Niklas Winter and American bandleader, trombonist and singer Scott Stroman with a beguiling and diverse suite of pieces that showcase these unique talents. Winter and his unique ensemble (Henry Lowther – trumpet and fluegelhorn, Niklas Winter – guitar, Severi Pyysalo – vibraphone, Juho Laitinen – cello) fresh from a tour of Japan, are joined by the choir to perform his newly minted album ‘Graduale’ which is based on ancient Finnish folk music. Stroman leads both choir and jazz quartet in a reassessment of his seminal ‘Songs of the Spirit’ along with songs from Pat Metheny, Jim Pepper and others.

Join us in the intimate and storied setting of the Actor’s Church, Covent Garden – a delightful haven amidst the bustle of the West End, for an evening of music that will seduce and inspire you.

Niklas Winter has made 10 records as a leader and has been active as a sideman in several bands. He also runs his own jazzlabel Abovoice. During the years Winter has performed with; Kenny Wheeler, Ulf Wakenius, Kirite Kanawa, Jesse Van Ruller, Cameron Brown, Henry Lowther, Ted Curson, Lars Jansson, Jukkis Uotila, Teemu Viinikainen, Karl-Martin Almqvist, Fumio Yasuda, Ino Nobuyoshi, Jani Moder, Morten Lund, Jesper Bodilsen, Severi Pyysalo and many more..

Scott Stroman is a uniquely broad musician: a composer, conductor, performer and educator in jazz, classical and world music. He is director of the London Jazz Orchestra, professor of jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, director of the genre-busting choir Eclectic Voices, artistic director of Highbury Opera Theatre, directed the contemporary string ensemble Opus 20, is director of music at the American International Church in London and a conductor of orchestras, choirs, bands, opera and musical theatre.
