  1. Fratres, for violin, strings and percussion - Arvo Pärt
  2. Moon, for chamber orchestra and electronics - Anna Meredith
  3. Das Lied von der Erde, 'Song of the Earth' - Gustav Mahler, arranged for chamber orchestra by Arnold Schoenberg

Calling cultural adventurers to join a sonic odyssey on Earth and beyond. Mystic minimalism meets transcendental melody in this genre-fusing evening of music featuring a live 18-piece string ensemble directed by violinist Maren Bosma, two vocalists and electronics.

Opening the night is Fratres by the Estonian master of minimalist meditations, Arvo Pärt. This classic from the 1970s is full of hypnotic repetitions and sublime melodies that will take you into a realm of deep reflection and serenity.

The centrepiece comes in the form of Moon by Anna Meredith (‘one of the most innovative minds in modern British music’ - Pitchfork) with live visuals by illustrator Eleanor Meredith. Blasting musical genre boundaries into oblivion, Meredith weaves intricate musical tapestries that combine soaring strings and booming brass with electrifying electronic dance floor beats to create feel-good vibes that you won’t want to end.

Mahler was an unparalleled orchestrator of emotions and Song of the Earth are the place where his ‘bitter awareness of imminent extinction is confronted and fused with a hedonistic delight in the beauty of nature and the ecstasy of living’. With texts based on classical Chinese poetry these songs contain music of extraordinary beauty and will be sung by two stellar soloists. They are a profound deep-dive into the joys and sorrows of the human experience and will resonate deeply within your soul.

Relax into a cushion in the EartH theatre and get ready out of this world musical experience.
