  1. Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No 5 in E flat, 'Emperor' Op 73 - Ludwig van Beethoven
  2. Scheherazade Op 35 - Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov

Music is all about stories - hear Scheherazade retold in its gorgeous melodies.

Ludwig van Beethoven plays a majestic piano chord, and a voice in the audience cries out ‘It’s the Emperor!’. Rimsky-Korsakov leafs through the pages of the Arabian Nights to find tales of robbers, genies, fabulous beasts and courageous women. It’s all there in the sounds and sensations of this gloriously tuneful LPO debut for Tianyi Lu, winner of the 2020 Sir Georg Solti Conductors’ Competition – whether the gorgeous melodies of Scheherazade, or the grandeur and glory of Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Concerto, with Tom Borrow (‘A marvel!’: The Herald) as soloist.
