In collaboration with Hennessey Brown Music, Vox Anima London presents Em[Power]? – A Concert for International Women’s Day, bringing together treble voices in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The centrepiece of the programme by the Vox Anima London Singers, under the baton of Erin Freeman, is Everyday Wonders: The Girl From Aleppo by Cecilia McDowall. This moving cantata tells the story of Nujeen Mustafa, a Kurdish teenager with cerebral palsy, and her harrowing journey from war-ravaged Aleppo to Germany.
A range of other outstanding female composers are celebrated, including Hannah Rice, with the world premiere of her piece Em[Power]?, commissioned by Vox Anima London for this concert.
Adwoa Dickson conducts the Amies Freedom Choir which opens the evening. The Amies Freedom Choir is made up of young women who have survived the traumas of trafficking – using music to explore styles, culture and language.
The Queen’s Six bring their voices to the stage presenting a programme ranging from early chant, florid Renaissance polyphony, madrigals and haunting folk songs, to upbeat jazz and pop arrangements!
Vox Anima London and Hennessey Brown Music are grateful to Inherit Your Rights for their invaluable support of this concert.
