Laurie Lee's rich memoir of childhood and awakenig
Following last year’s highly successful tour of ‘As I walked Out …’, ARKangel are premiering their new show, ‘Cider with Rosie’, on home ground in Southwell Library.
Capturing Laurie Lee’s richly descriptive language in a powerful narrative, coloured with a feast of music, ARKangel’s ‘Cider with Rosie’ explores Laurie’s much loved memoir of childhood in an age of dramatic social change … the damp, cramped Cotswold cottage, the rural poverty following the First World War, Er down under the Varmint and his never to be forgotten encounter with Rosie Burdock!
Through spoken word, violin, guitar and song, ARKangel’s recent programmes have been described as ‘Spellbinding’, ‘Utterly sublime’, ‘Thought provoking’, with ‘Mesmerizing Storytelling’.
Interwoven with Haunting Traditional Song and the music of Vaughan Williams, John Ireland, Elgar Debussy, Holst, the programme includes such gems as Fantasia on Greensleeves, a snippet of The Lark Ascending, The Snow it Melts the Soonest, New World Symphony, Sea Fever.
ARKangel’s Laurie Lee programmes will soon be touring as part of the Arts Council funded 2024/25 Rural Touring programme, Live and Local.
